Unruly son shot by father in GV

GOLDEN VALLEY – A man shot his drunken, belligerent son late Monday night in Golden Valley, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). Deputies responded at 11:49 p.m. on January 27 to the incident at a home in the 3700 block of Amado Road.

The injured party, Gabriel Gonzalez, 27, was reported in critical condition after he was flown to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the neck.

MCSO spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said his father indicated that Gonzalez had been drinking heavily and was told to go sleep it off. Instead Gonzalez reportedly started a physical altercation with his mother and approached his father aggressively before the father shot him.

“A video of the incident showed the physical confrontation between Gonzalez and the female victim, and Gonzalez then moving towards the male before the shot was fired,” Mortensen said. She said no one has been arrested and investigation continues.

“A records check revealed Gonzalez was recently released from prison and was on parole at the time of the incident,” Mortensen said. The Arizona Department of Corrections website showed a projected Jan. 25 release date for Gonzalez who served time for aggravated assault and resisting arrest convictions in Mohave County.
