More than a touch of insanity, it appears

Dear Editor,

A touch of insanity seems rife in the conservative ranks, or maybe it is just woeful lack of common sense. How else does one conclude the January 6 insurrection does not require a bipartisan commission tasked with investigating the assault on the Capitol?

The majority of us saw the taped interviews of Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy condemning those involved as well as insinuating Donald Trump was at least partially, if not mostly to blame. Now both gentlemen suddenly seem to have changed their minds and don’t think the commission is such a good idea. It is speculative to suggest both do not want to explain the reasons for their about face, possibly concerned it would make them seem like the fools they appear to be. Especially since presumably they would be under oath to speak truthfully.

Recall we had a 9-1-1 commission and a Benghazi commission to investigate those incidents, which really did not threaten our democratic process. Just as the lack of interest into the January 6 incident seems to be casting the conservative leaders in a questionable light, so too is the Arizona election recount making Arizonans look foolish indeed!

To those who insist Donald Trump won the past presidential election, does this imply he is not eligible to run for a third term? I refer you to the 22nd Amendment. Shouldn’t those who feel mask mandates infringe on our freedoms be supporting transgender individuals’ freedom to change their gender, or a woman’s right to control her own reproductive tract? Less government in our lives, I think not from those on the right.
