Mohave Valley woman gets 10 years for child abuse

MOHAVE VALLEY — A federal judge has imposed a near ten-year prison term in a Mohave Valley woman’s child abuse case. Starla Shaffer, 36, is convicted of assault resulting in serious bodily injury through a plea agreement.

“Between January 1, 2022, and September 21, 2022, Shaffer assaulted a three-year-old minor victim by shaking and striking her on the face, buttocks, chest and back, while the minor victim was in her care,” said a news release issued by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona. “Shaffer’s assault caused permanent and life-threatening injuries to the minor victim.”

The FBI Phoenix Division’s Lake Havasu office and the Fort Mohave Police Department conducted the case investigation. United States District Judge Diane J. Humetewa imposed a 118-month prison term during a June 25 sentencing hearing in Phoenix.
