BULLHEAD CITY – Mohave Community College (MCC) has announced the grand opening of northwestern Arizona’s first-ever college student housing, marking a significant milestone for both MCC and the region. Dozens of people, including many local dignitaries attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the newly built Mohave Village Apartments. The event signifies the beginning of a new era for MCC as students start moving into their new homes.

The Mohave Village Apartments, situated on the Bullhead City campus, will accommodate up to 58 students. Each unit features full-size bathrooms, full kitchens, washers and dryers, and spacious living rooms. The 16,500-square-foot complex also boasts study spaces, landscaped courtyards, a residence life office, onsite residence life staff, and space for future infrastructure expansions.

“This is an historic moment for Mohave Community College and the Bullhead City community,” said MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein. “The Mohave Village Apartments are a testament to our commitment to enhancing the student experience and providing a supportive, enriching environment that fosters academic success and student life.”

The initiative to build on-campus apartments was driven by student requests, Facilities Master Plan research results, community support, and athletic program logistics. The project was approved by the MCC Board of Governors in May 2023, and the College broke ground on the Mohave Village Apartments last September.

Management of the apartment complex will be under the oversite of MCC Bullhead City Dean of Student and Community Engagement Gary Cooper.

“The completion of the Mohave Village Apartments is a direct response to the needs and desires of our students. We are excited to offer them a living space that supports their academic and personal growth,” said Cooper.

Kinney Construction Services, Inc. (KCS) served as the Design-Build Contractor, working in collaboration with project architect Todd & Associates, Inc.

“We are thrilled to see this project come to fruition,” said Mike Thomas, KCS President & Project Director. “This was a collaborative effort between Mohave Community College, Todd & Associates, and KCS, working closely with local trade partners to ensure a swift and efficient turnaround for MCC. It was a pleasure to utilize local trade partners, which not only ensured quality craftsmanship but also reinvested in our local economy.”

The Mohave Village Apartments are designed to complement the surroundings and the Bullhead City Campus and are prominently visible from Highway 95 on the west side of the campus. For more information about the new student housing, please visit MohaveVillage.com.

This project represents a new chapter in the growth and development of MCC, reflecting its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of its students and the broader community.

“It’s great, it’s all really put together and I’m really excited to stay here. I have a washer and dryer and didn’t expect to have it all, but this is like a little apartment,” said Rylee Tafoya, soccer player.

The college is currently enrolling students in fall semester classes, which begin August 19. New and returning students should get started by visiting Mohave.edu/Admission, or call 1-866-MOHAVECC.
