MOHAVE COUNTY – The new semester is underway at Mohave College. The spring semester started Monday, Jan. 12 with enrollment higher than last spring by 2%. This semester the College is introducing bachelor’s degree programs for the first time in the institution’s history. The expanded offerings reflect the college’s continued focus on access, affordability and workforce readiness.
As of the first week of classes, spring semester enrollment is 4,394 compared to 4,299 students last semester, a 2% increase. Students are taking more credits this spring semester compared to last spring, resulting in a 4% increase in total credit enrollment.
There’s still time to sign up for the semester with more classes starting later in the term. Twelve-week classes begin Feb. 9 and 8-week classes starting soon after March 16. The multiple start dates allow students to enroll at various points in the semester and progress toward their academic goals at an accelerated pace.
Mohave College has traditionally focused on associate degrees and certificates. The addition of bachelor’s degree programs marks a significant milestone, giving students the opportunity to earn a four-year degree close to home while reducing the cost and time often associated with transferring to a university.
“These new bachelor’s degree programs allow our students to advance their education without leaving our community,” said Dr. Tonya Jackson-Lopez, Associate Dean of Instruction for STEM. “By combining flexible scheduling with high-demand programs, we are meeting students where they are and preparing them for today’s workforce.”
The bachelor’s programs launched this semester include Bachelor of Science in Biology, Bachelor of Arts in Human Services and Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Each program builds on existing associate degree pathways and focuses on skills aligned with local and regional workforce needs.
