AZ Democratic Party needs new leadership

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

The Arizona Democratic Party has gone through three presidents in the last 11 months, after their last leader was impeached for blowing the budget.

The Arizona Democratic Party is a corpse, the walking dead. Chronically unable to take a stand at the risk of offending anyone, even as the world burns. At a time when bold leadership is needed, Old Democrats think we can win without trying a single new idea.

We need to vote them out. Here’s how you can help.

Democratic Party members who have voting privileges are called Precinct Committeemen. Think of Precinct Committeemen as the very lowest elected position in party government. For example, Kingman residents can get on the ballot with just 10 petition signatures. There are many PC positions available; Practically everyone who runs is elected.

I’ve been a PC for just under a year, and the commitment has been negligible. Some months I just go to a weekend rally. Other times I help pick up trash from Locomotive Park or register voters during First Friday in downtown Kingman.

Only Precinct Committeemen have a voice within the party and unless New Democrats start outnumbering the Old Democrats, literally nothing is going to change.

It’s not going to be easy. It’s going to take people participating, taking an active role wherever they can in local government. Joining Democrats as a PC is a great opportunity to do that.

Come to the MCDCC office at 212b N 5th St, Kingman, AZ or your local office. Become a Precinct Committeeman and be the change you want to see in the world!

[Authors Note: I am a registered Democrat. I speak for myself, not the Arizona Democratic Party.]
