MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave College’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Center is expanding its role as a resource for local businesses, offering customized workforce training, professional development and access to technology designed to help employers strengthen their teams and grow.
Located at the Kingman Airport Industrial Park, the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center, or AMTC, was built to connect education directly with the needs of the regional workforce. The College also has mobile training resources and can perform employee skills training at a company’s worksite.
In addition to preparing students for careers in skilled trades, the College works with businesses of all sizes to identify employee skill gaps and develop training tailored to their operational needs and schedule.
“We want business owners to think of the AMTC as a resource they can call when they have a workforce challenge,” said Jason Gee, Dean of the College Career and Technical Education academic division. “Maybe employees need additional technical skills, supervisors need help becoming stronger leaders or a company needs specialized training that doesn’t already exist on a class schedule. We can sit down with them, find out what they need and look at how the College can help.”
Training can range from hands-on technical skills to professional development for employees, supervisors and managers. The College workforce training opportunities include leadership development, management and supervision, communication, conflict management, high-performing teams, Lean principles, process improvement and other skills businesses need to improve productivity and develop employees. Customized training can also be developed around an employer’s specific needs.
For businesses in manufacturing and the skilled trades, the AMTC offers access to specialized training and equipment in welding, HVAC, industrial maintenance, robotics, computer-aided design (CAD), manufacturing processes and related technologies. The 36,000-square-foot facility includes design labs, simulated and virtual reality labs and collaborative training spaces designed to provide hands-on experience with modern equipment and processes.
The AMTC Makerspace gives local entrepreneurs and businesses access to equipment that might otherwise be difficult or expensive to obtain.
Open to the public, students, businesses and other community partners, the Makerspace can be used for prototyping, replacement parts, product development and creative projects. Equipment includes 3D filament printers, a 3D resin printer, 3D scanning coordinate measurement machine, CNC router, desktop CNC mill, desktop CNC lathe, CO2 and Fiber laser engravers, laser micro-welder and vinyl printer/cutter.
Businesses do not have to be experts with the equipment to take advantage of the resource. The Makerspace Service Bureau can also work with customers on design, prototyping and refinement, helping turn an idea or business need into a finished project.
“Small businesses don’t always have their own training department, specialized equipment or someone dedicated to workforce development,” said Ryan Walker, AMTC Director. “That’s where the College can be a valuable partner. If there’s something your employees need to learn or something your business is trying to build, improve or solve, talk to us.”
The AMTC opened in August 2025 as part of Arizona’s Future48 Workforce Accelerator network, a partnership involving the State of Arizona, Arizona Commerce Authority, Mohave College, local government and industry partners. It was created to expand advanced manufacturing and skilled workforce training in northwestern Arizona and support regional economic development.
In March, the AMTC was named the Higher Education and Workforce Development Project of the Year, earning a 2026 RED (Real Estate Developers) Award. Nearly 200 students took courses at the AMTC during just its first few months of operation, while more than 2,000 youth and adults have participated in training, meetings, career fairs and other activities.
