Meth seizure nets prison time for Phoenix resident

jail prison

KINGMAN, Ariz. – Seizure of nearly four ounces of methamphetamine outside Kingman brings an Arizona Department of Corrections sentence for a Phoenix resident. Justin Owens, 44, was sentenced Nov. 3 by Judge Ryan Esplin.

Owens pleaded guilty to transportation of dangerous drugs for sale. He was arrested following a May 3 traffic stop a few miles east of Kingman.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Phillip Delgado said a K-9 alerted to illegal cargo before a magnetized container was located under his vehicle. About 108 grams of meth were concealed within the hidden container.

“That is a significant amount of meth to be transported for sale,” Judge Esplin said.

Owens asked for the shortest punishment possible. He said he wants to get out of prison, turn his life around and raise his young son.

Judge Esplin ordered a 4.5-year prison term.
