Mayor Miles recall submitted

KINGMAN – Petitions proposing the recall of Kingman Mayor Jen Miles were submitted late Monday afternoon, a day ahead of the filing deadline.  City Clerk Annie Meredith said recall leader James Coffman submitted 148 petition sheets bearing 2,367 non-validated signatures.

That’s nearly 1,000 more signatures than are required to advance the ouster effort. The petitions and signatures will next undergo an administrative review process at the city and county level.

Meredith has the initial oversight, followed by the Mohave County Recorder’s office. County Elections Director Allen Tempert said it’ll be several weeks if not longer before it is determined if the petitions meet requirements to qualify the recall question.

Locally submitted petitions for recalls or political campaigns have sometimes been nullified during the review process and have also failed for fault when challenged in Court.

Should the recall papers be validated, Mayor Miles has the option of resigning or running against one or more challengers.

Tempert said it’s unclear when a recall election would occur but that it might track for Aug. 3 because time might be too tight for the May 18 election window. He said another possible election date would be Nov. 2.

Several other local political recalls are pending.

Coffman’s father has until Jan. 19 to submit petitions proposing the recall of Kingman City council members Jamie Scott Stehly and SueAnn Mello and Vice Mayor Ken Watkins. Stanley Hicks has until Feb. 16 to submit petitions proposing the recall of Mayor Miles and Stehly.

Golden Valley resident Robert Hall, owner of Great American Pizza, has until Feb. 24 to submit petitions proposing the recall of Mohave County Dist. 4 Sup. Jean Bishop. 2,998 valid signatures are required.

  1. “They know not what they do.” Let’s start with this. Words out of Scripture.

How many of these folks, our neighbors, truly walk in the footsteps of Jesus?

And how many walk in the footsteps of Mammon?

Who, in our community is fighting for the common good of all, and who is fighting for purely political reasons?

This is a question each one of us needs to ask.

Nothing in this world provides simple answers.

Who has shown real concern for our community’s health? And who’s been revealed to care more about political power?

Only you… individually… can answer this question. I trust you to do this.

  2. Recall attempts are wasting the good citizens of Kingman and Mohave County’s limited financial resources. It’s obvious there are other agendas masked as recalls. General elections are where our voices should be heard for policy disagreements.

So we should wear masks? Not much of our freedom was/has been taken by attempting to slow down what is happening all around us.
