Locals transition to different positions following elections

MOHAVE COUNTY – A bit of musical chairs is in play for several Mohave County republicans who are engaged in interesting office entrances, exits and transitions following the 2024 elections.

Arizona state Senator Sonny Borrelli has been elected as Mohave County Supervisor in Dist. 3 while Dist. 2 Supervisor Hildy Angius also prevailed handily in her general election race to succeed Borrelli as Dist. 30 senator in Phoenix.

Appointed to the Bullhead City Council in the summer of 2023, Rich Lettman will succeed  Angius on the Board of Supervisors early next year after sewing up that seat in the Aug. primary. Lettman attended his last Council meeting Tuesday.

“I really want to thank all of the City staff members. I’ve been on Council for 15 months after the appointment,” Lettman said. “It’s been a real learning experience. The staff is terrific here. Our city employees do a great job.”

Lettman also praised his council colleagues and the city leadership team, while wishing incoming council members well.

“I think the City is in great shape. Not perfect by any means but we’re in a really good place,” he said. “It’s just been a really good run…and in January we’ll see you all in Kingman.”

Primary election losses see Juan Lizaragga and Grace Hecht leaving Council, along with Lettman.

Re-elected Council member Rodney Head and newly-elected Council members Karen Dallman, Jason Newlin and Eugene O’Neill will be sworn in to begin their new terms of office Nov. 19.

“I’d like to take a moment to thank Rich, Grace and Juan for all of the help that they have been and for everything that they’ve done on this council and for this City,” Head said. “And I want to welcome Gene, Jason and Karen to the Council.”

City Manager Toby Cotter said the Nov. 19 Council meeting will feature light action items, Thank You’s and a genuine welcome.

“We are trying to not bring a full agenda forward to Council that evening. Hopefully it’s just more of a ceremonial meeting,” Cotter said. “That way we can do the peaceful transfer of city council members without them worrying about the packets and all that go along with that.”
