KINGMAN, Ariz. – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kingman hosted a Disaster Preparedness Fair Saturday, October17. Many organizations in the community were on hand to help. There was also a workshop to learn how to build a 72-hour emergency kit for sudden evacuation.
Preparedness booths and presentations were provided by Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC), Kingman Police and Fire Departments, River Medical, American Red Cross, and county emergency management groups.
There were practical classes on personal, family and community emergency responses and communication strategies.

There were emergency vehicles, alternative cooking demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
Bishop Bud Lucas said this was the first one in Kingman and they were only going to get better. “Many people don’t know it, but there are earthquake faults running through Kingman.”
He said you just never know when you need to evacuate in a hurry because of an earthquake, a wildfire or other emergency and when that happens, it pays to be ready.

Kingman City Councilman Jim Dykens, with his son James, were offering advice on Emergency Preparedness. “How do we prepare for power outage, earthquakes, flooding, wildfires? Things like this (fair) help make the community aware of being prepared,” Dykens said. “You never know when you’re going to need it. If you have prepared for it, you don’t have to worry.”
