Lake Havasu City honors Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City, in collaboration with the USS Arizona Relic Committee, led by Marine Corps League Detachment #757, invites the public to a heartfelt Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony scheduled this Thursday, December 7, at 7:30 a.m. at London Bridge Beach Park, near the flagpoles.

The upcoming event commemorates the 82nd Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day and includes the unveiling of the proposed design of the memorial that will house the USS Arizona relic, that the Marine Corp League Detachment #757 brought to us from the US Navy.

Out of respect for the USS Arizona as a National Memorial, Congress authorized the Navy to donate pieces of the battleship to non-profit veteran and education organizations, so that the public may honor the civilians and military service members who lost their lives on that tragic morning, as well as those who survived and fought with great honor and bravery on that fateful day, defending the people and principles of our nation.

Two years ago, the Marine Corps League Detachment #757 acquired a 4-foot by 6-foot, 520-pound relic, that was taken from the aft deckhouse of the superstructure of the USS Arizona, and took charge of the feat of protecting and displaying the relic that was gifted to our hometown. The goal of the committee is to house the relic at London Bridge Beach at the site of this ceremony, through fundraising and in-kind donations.

Veterans have made and continue to make valuable contributions to Lake Havasu City, and we encourage you to join us at this event to demonstrate your support of these great Americans.

For additional information related to this event, please contact the mayor’s office at 928-453-4152. To inquire about monetary and in-kind donations to house the relic, please contact Brian Springberg at brianspringberg@yahoo.com
