KPD conducting Dolan shooting investigation

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Kingman Police Department (KPD) is providing additional details of an officer-involved shooting that injured no one and resulted in the arrest of the suspect in Dolan Springs on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Deputy Police Chief Joel Freed said Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) detectives were searching the rural community for Edward Angelo regarding arrest warrants and his alleged involvement in several violent crimes. Freed said detectives spotted Angelo about 9:00 a.m. when he fled on ATV.

Officers reportedly drew fire when a foot pursuit evolved after the ATV became disabled.

“Angelo fired multiple rounds at the detectives prompting the detectives to return fire,” Freed said. The 27-year-old Dolan Springs resident was subsequently located in a vehicle about a mile from the initial crime scene.

“Investigators learned that when Angelo entered the vehicle he attempted to force the driver, at gunpoint, to drive away,” Freed said. “The driver, a Dolan Springs resident, slammed on the brakes, allowing deputies to take Angelo into custody without further incident.”

Angelo was transported to Kingman and booked into the Adult Detention Center on a slew of charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and kidnapping.

The KPD is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, standard procedure, so that agencies don’t investigate shootings involving their own personnel.
