KPD awarded grant funds from Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety

KINGMAN – The Kingman Police Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $34,502 grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for DUI/Impaired Driving Enforcement. The grant funds will be used to pay for officer’s overtime costs for enhanced targeted DUI and impaired driving enforcement throughout the City of Kingman from October 1, 2023 – September 30, 2024. The goal of the Impaired Driving Program is to reduce alcohol and drug related driving fatalities and injuries through enforcement, education, and public awareness throughout the State of Arizona.

The Kingman Police Department is an active participant of the Western Arizona DUI Task Force, which includes the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona Department of Transportation, Bullhead City Police Department, and Lake Havasu City Police Department.  The Kingman Police Department in coordination with the Western Arizona DUI Task Force will conduct saturation patrols throughout the year with an emphasis on holidays and specific event days when incidents of impaired driving are higher.

Arizona has severe penalties for impaired drivers which is recognized as a violent crime. Anyone arrested for DUI drugs or DUI alcohol will go to jail and their vehicle will be impounded. The average cost of a DUI offense is close to $10,000 (fines, court fees, vehicle impound, insurance rates, etc…).  These economic costs don’t include the personal costs for the potential loss of life or your job.

The Kingman Police Department wants to remind you to plan ahead for a sober ride home in advance if you plan to use an impairing substance or will be drinking alcoholic beverages. Before you ever get behind the wheel of a vehicle, remember: If You Feel Different, You Drive Different and If you Drive Hammered, You’ll Get Nailed!  Please plan ahead if you are going to be drinking and designate a sober driver, taxi, or rideshare.
