KINGMAN – The Mesa company that manages the old Safeway shopping plaza along Stockton Hill Rd. in Kingman is looking for a new tenant following the recent closure of the JC Penney store. Property manager Brett Borg said he is also continuing to work to fill the space formerly occupied by Hastings.
Meantime, construction is underway for a Bank of America ATM just north of the Safeway fuel station. Borg said an agreement to develop a Riliberto’s restaurant in the same parking lot fell apart.
“The Mexican restaurant deal did happen for a lot of reasons,” Borg said. “It basically got signed but both parties decided to walk away from the deal.”
Borg said the Perkins Restaurant and Bakery project announced for the back of the property nearly five years ago remains stalled and stagnant.
“Perkins still may happen. It’s a remote chance but it still might happen,” Borg said, citing a litany of challenges ranging from financing to COVID-19. “I still think Perkins wants to be there. We would like them to have them there. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but there’s still a chance.”
