LAKE HAVASU CITY – Havasu Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced that Erica Spencer, RN, has been honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day.
Erica, a dedicated nurse at HRMC, was nominated by a patient who experienced her exceptional care firsthand following a challenging 13-day hospital stay with post-surgical complications. The patient’s submission highlighted Erica’s remarkable commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
The nomination letter read: “When I met this nurse, she made me feel like family. I was in a lot of pain, and she checked on me several times a day – even when I wasn’t assigned to her.”
The patient said that Erica’s selflessness shone through particularly on the day of the patient’s scheduled discharge, which was unexpectedly delayed. To ensure the patient’s safety and timely release, Erica went above and beyond: She took time to resolve the complex discharge problem and personally instructed the patient and their spouse on how to use a manual IV until a home health nurse could arrive at their residence.
“She saved me from spending another weekend in the hospital,” the patient wrote. “I cried when we got home. I love you forever. Thank you.”
The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who provide excellent clinical care while demonstrating great compassion for their patients. Erica Spencer, RN, exemplifies this dedication, inspiring confidence and providing comfort when it is needed most.
“Erica’s commitment to our patients is a perfect example of the compassionate care we strive to provide at Havasu Regional Medical Center. We are incredibly proud to see her dedication recognized by The DAISY Foundation and, more importantly, by her patients,” said Danita Dailey, Chief Nursing Officer at Havasu Regional Medical Center.
