Grandfather, grandchildren escape home fire

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City Fire Department (LHCFD) responded to a home fire in the 3700 block of Chemehuevi Blvd., on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 20. According to a LHCFD press release, the occupant had discovered a large fire on the back porch that was quickly extending into the home.

The first arriving fire company reported fire through the roof and made the decision to fight the fire

defensively outside of the residence. The roof structure had already collapsed as the fire

ran throughout the living area and the attic. Five Engine Companies, one Truck Company,

a Battalion Chief, and a Division Chief responded and gained control of the fire within about an hour. The grandfather and four grandchildren all evacuated the residence safely with no reported injuries.

Crews remained on the scene an additional five hours conducting salvage operations, hitting hot spots and standing fire watch. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
