First of two ordered to prison for Havasu drug dealing

Interior of courtroom

KINGMAN – The first of two Apple Valley, California men busted with drugs and a firearm in Lake Havasu City is going to the Arizona Department of Corrections. Adrian Viera, 40, appeared for change of plea and sentencing hearings at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center on Jan. 28.

“I would just like to apologize to the state and the City of Lake Havasu for my actions,” Viera told judge Billy Sipe.

Police officers reportedly observed Viera and co-defendant Jeffery Prochazka, 35, behaving suspiciously last November in the parking lot of the Maverik convenience market on McCulloch Boulevard. An ensuing traffic stop led to the seizure of about 37 grams of methamphetamine and a loaded 9mm pistol from the Mercedes they occupied.

Viera pleaded guilty to a charge reduced to attempted possession of dangerous drugs for sale. Possession of narcotic drugs for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia and weapons offenses are dismissed in the deal.

Judge Sipe ordered a 5-year prison term for Viera, the maximum punishment possible under terms of the deal. The case against Prochazka is still pending.
