First annual American Graffiti Car Show brings 60 cars to Golden Valley (VIDEO)

GOLDEN VALLEY — 60 classic cars participated in the first annual American Graffiti Car Show on Saturday at the Community Mall in Golden Valley. The event kicked off at 5 p.m. and continued into the night with an outdoor screening of the original George Lucas film American Graffiti.

The organizer of the event was Alexis De La Cruz, who works at the Community Mall. Her inspiration for the event came from her home of Modesta, California, where the film American Graffiti takes place. “I wanted to bring a little piece of home here and it turned out awesome,” she said.

The Golden Valley Community Mall is a year and a half old and its owner, Colette Hronek, says that it has grown by leaps and bounds. The Community Mall offers a space for local artists to sell their goods.

“It’s a place where we can gather, have fun, and get to know each other, Hronek said. “I think that’s really important these days and we have a lot of fun here.”

Car owners came from as far away as Needles, California to participate. The car club Time Travelers assisted with organizing the event and had cars in the show.

Vendors included the handmade décor shop Forever Creations, West Coast Customs car shop, and new local business Mister Root Beer which was selling root beer floats. Food vendors included Kev-OG’s Hot Dogs and Maria’s Kitchen.
