Eight-year-old boy arrested for bring gun to school in Fort Mohave

FORT MOHAVE — An eight-year old boy was arrested after bringing a loaded handgun to his school in Fort Mohave. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded just before noon on December 1 to the Fort Mojave elementary school at 1760 Joy Lane.

“Prior to law enforcement arrival, school administrators removed the student from the classroom and secured the weapon,” said MSCO public information specialist Anita Mortensen. She said the unidentified juvenile displayed the weapon to other students and communicated a threat involving a teacher.

No one was injured during the incident. How the suspect came to possess the firearm was not immediately determined.

Mortensen said a student contacted the principal before staff quickly intervened. She said boy was transported to a juvenile detention facility on felony charges of misconduct involving a weapon, disorderly conduct, minor possessing a firearm, threatening and intimidating and disrupting an educational institution.

Mortensen said a second student who briefly handled the weapon could be charged, and that investigation continues.
