County Supervisors tackle tax relief, infrastructure at latest meeting

mohave county administration building

MOHAVE COUNTY – Supervisor Rich Lettman, District 2, attended the June 15 Board of Supervisor’s meeting by video. He gave kudos to Mohave County Library in Bullhead City for a job well done on their family event for America’s 250th.

He mentioned that their Revolution Exhibit flag display was being moved to the Kingman library this week and requested Steve Latoski, Public Works Director give a brief update on the special meeting of the Mohave County Airport Authority (MCAA).

If interested in those MCAA minutes, type in the following in your search engine: Flying IFP Board Agendas & Minutes.

Supervisor Sonny Borrelli, District 3, said the Governor signed the budget, and in it a full tax conformity, part of the Big Beautiful Bill with no tax on tips or overtime, a tax relief for seniors and beginning FY27, a property tax cut for veterans.

Supervisor Don Martin, District 4, said he attended several meetings in Dolan Springs. He and others went to Nevada to see equipment the county is contemplating buying to facilitate the launch at South Cove.

He said people were having to back up 100 yards to get to the water. He contacted National Park Service (NPS) and two days later it was fixed.

Supervisor Martin also  said people in outlying areas are experiencing rats and mice spilling over onto their properties from run down properties and they’re sick and tired of it.

“These places are absolutely unhealthy,” Supervisor Martin said. “It’s a serious problem. We’re going to address it. We’re going to make it happen.”

Supervisor Board Chairman, Travis Lingenfelter, District 1, gave a brief update on the Hualapai Valley Basin INA. He said the case is ongoing in appeals court, but the appeals court has granted a stay on the irrigation freeze and until the case is fully played out, that freeze remains in place, a win for the area.

County Manager David Strahl said he met with Mohave College and the city to look for cost-sharing plans to save the Yellow Bus line. A follow up meeting is scheduled for next week.

The Board will go into executive session at 9 a.m. July 6th to discuss and consult with legal council pending or contemplated litigation claims and demands.

A report was given about a software program the county is using to upscale or reskill workers already employed or looking for a job. On this app, 175 users enrolled, 540 courses have been completed for 875 hours. Report showed of those enrolled, 43% unemployed obtained jobs, 30% already employed, received a promotion and 6% incumbents received a pay increase.

Most agenda items discussed were approved, some with amendments like Item 51 that asked for an additional $2.5M or a total of $6.5M to develop the county morgue facility.

Item 54-A for rezoning failed to receive a second motion, thereby nullifying 54-B to rezone 10 acres in Golden Valley for commercial contractor yards and a warehouse.

The Board suspended intake fees at the animal shelter until the end of September due to summer heat.
