LAKE HAVASU CITY – Recreation groups throughout Lake Havasu City are coming together to support the three local Rotary Clubs, Republic Services, the Lake Havasu Marine Association, Arizona State Parks and Trails, Go Lake Havasu and 2AR Patriots in their efforts to help clean up the community honoring Earth Day on Saturday, March 23.
“We are proud to dedicate this year’s cleanup to Christine Simmons, who wonderfully led Protect Our Deserts (P.O.D.), in their desert cleanup of the Bison Boulevard and Paseo del Oro areas” said Carrie Hemme, a Rotarian and co-founder and organizer. “We are looking forward, once again, to our community coming together to make Havasu even more beautiful.”
Everyone is invited to contribute to the efforts on Saturday, March 23 by picking up free trash bags at the Republic Services office between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday at 2011 College Drive, and at Michael Alan Furnishings from 10am to 5:30pm Monday through Saturday at 2010 W. Acoma Blvd.
Volunteers are asked to refrain from cleanups on Arizona State Highway 95 unless they have received the appropriate permits from the Arizona Department of Transportation, which typically take about four weeks to process.
7am: Meet at 2AR Patriots LLC, a firearm business at 72 S. Smoketree Ave, for coffee and doughnuts before riding out to Bison Boulevard at 8am with other firearm enthusiasts to clean the desert.
8am: Lake Havasu State Park – join the Lake Havasu Marine Association in helping to cleanup the river and lake.
8am: Join Havasu Hikes, a local hiking guide company, and other hiking enthusiasts to clean up the trails (S.A.R.A. Park will not be accessible for clean up due to a mountain bike race, however, Havasu Hikes is coordinating other trail areas for clean up.)
All participants are asked to take pictures of their efforts and email them to clh@strachota.com or gbmeyers@outlook.com to help the local Rotary clubs celebrate and highlight their Day of Service.
Earthy Day is Monday, April 22, however, due to major community events during that time, the community honors Earth Day at the end of March.
