City of Kingman awarded federal grant to launch historic properties inventory

City council

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman has been awarded almost nineteen thousand dollars through the Federal Historic Preservation Fund’s Certified Local Government (CLG) Pass-Through Grant Program to conduct a citywide historic properties inventory. The grant, administered by the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), will fund a professional survey to identify and document historic buildings and landmarks across Kingman.

The project will be the first comprehensive update to Kingman’s historic resource inventory in decades. The City will work with qualified historic preservation consultants to assess both previously listed sites and newly identified properties, creating an official and up-to-date Historic Properties List.

The project will play a crucial role in future preservation efforts, including the identification of potential landmark designations and historic overlay districts. Once completed, the findings will be presented to the Kingman Heritage Preservation Commission and used to inform planning and zoning decisions in alignment with the heritage preservation sections of the City’s Zoning Code.

“This grant lays the groundwork for meaningful preservation planning and helps us better protect Kingman’s unique history,” said Tina Moline, Deputy City Manager. “Even more impressive, the grant was awarded just two days after submission which is one of the fastest turnarounds we’ve ever seen, underscoring SHPO’s strong support and recognition of the project’s value.”

The project is expected to be completed by July 2026.
