No injuries in Bullhead City blaze

No one was injured in a residential structure fire in Bullhead City. Fire department personnel responded just before 9:00 a.m. on March 28 to the incident in the 1400 block of Plata Drive. “Crews quickly confirmed that all of the occupants had safely evacuated the residence along with their small dogs,” said fire department spokeswoman Lori Viles. “Firefighters were able to  extinguish the blaze quickly but noted heavy smoke damage throughout the home.” After clearing the scene, firefighters returned at 1:00 to extinguish materials as the fire rekindled. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Drug bust case: First of five sentenced

The first of five defendants charged through an investigation of suspected drug sales from a home in Bullhead City avoided further jail time during his sentencing hearing in Kingman Thursday. Michael Furrow, 35, was placed on probation for 18 months and ordered to perform 60 hours of community work service. Furrow was initially charged with possession of dangerous drugs for sale, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia when he and four others were arrested when police executed a search warrant on December 28, 2018 at a home in the 700 block of River Gardens Drive. Fairgrounds lease, TV2 to be discussed at Board of Supervisors meeting

A Laughlin-based television station’s bid to be placed within the Mohave County Television Improvement District will be aired during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting in Kingman. The Board directed staff nearly two years ago to determine whether system space could be found for TV2, KLBC Laughlin. “Since that time staff has worked extensively with legal counsel, our communications engineer and subcontractor to identify a solution that would keep all of the other existing channels on the air while providing an option for TV-2 to be added to the Television District System,” stated backup material for the Board’s consideration. Alleged child molester’s statement to police may not be admissible

Defense attorney Robin Puchek is fighting for court ordered suppression of his client’s incriminating statements to officers before the Bullhead City man’s child pornography trial starts  in Kingman. Michael David Barrett, 42, is charged with ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor for images of child pornography found in October 2017 on a computer in his home in Katherine Heights. Barrett is also charged in a separate case with three counts of child molestation and two counts of sexual conduct with a minor. Lake Havasu resident helps raise funds for children’s hospital

Annie Wofford of Lake Havasu City, was one of more than 1,700 current University of Iowa students who recently collaborated to raise almost $3 million in financial support for the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital as participants in the 25th annual UI Dance Marathon. During the event Feb. 1-2 at the Iowa Memorial Union, student participants unveiled the total of $2,960,403.25, which supports pediatric oncology patients and their families at the hospital and advances cancer research. Flora selected as CRUHSD Superintendent

BULLHEAD CITY – The Colorado River Union High School District governing board has unanimously chosen Arizona Department of Education (ADE) program specialist Todd Flora as its new superintendent.  The late-night vote Tuesday followed almost four hours of a third round of candidate interviews and discussion.
