Bat Fungus Potentially Detected at Grand Canyon

The fungus Pseudogymnoascus destructans (Pd) has potentially been detected on a fringed myotis (Myotis thysanodes) at Grand Canyon National Park. The bat was captured and sampled for the fungus in April 2019 during routine surveillance by park biologists.  Pd is a fungus that causes white-nose syndrome (WNS), which is a deadly disease for bats and can spread rapidly. The bat did not show any signs of WNS, and the disease has not been detected in bats at Grand Canyon.Laboratory results from Northern Arizona University suggested the fungus may have been present in a single swab sample collected from the bat….

The Bullhead Fire Department urges residents to exercise fire safety through the holiday season. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), between 2013-2017, U.S. fire departments respond to an average of 160 home structure fires caused by Christmas trees. While responding to an estimated average of 780 home structure fires per year that began with decorations between 2013-2017. Proposed hunt recommendations available for review for pronghorn, elk, and fall and spring turkey for 2020-21, 2021-22

The Arizona Game and Fish Department’s proposed recommendations for 2020 and 2021 pronghorn, elk, fall turkey and population management hunts, and for 2021 and 2022 spring turkey hunts, are available for review at www.azgfd.gov/huntguidelines.
