October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Havasu Community Health Foundation (HCHF) will be celebrating with their 25th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. In the U.S., this yearly event has also been referred to as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). NBCAM was created in 1985 in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division with Imperial Chemical Industries. They are now affiliated with AstraZeneca who distributes many anti-breast cancer medications. BULLHEAD CITY – A second Bullhead City woman has died of injuries sustained in a Sept. 1 traffic accident in the Colorado River community. Police Department Spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said Christine Walker, 84, died Sept. 10 at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Fromelt said Walker was the driver of a Dodge Dart that collided with another vehicle at N. Oatman Road and the Bullhead Parkway. MOHAVE VALLEY – Mosquito surveillance conducted this week in Mohave Valley by the Mohave County Department of Public Health Environmental Health Division (MCDPH-EHD) revealed the following locations below that met the protocol to conduct mosquito fogging. The MCDPH-EHD uses the CDC’s recommended matrix to guide when to fog. FOGGING: Adult mosquito control application will take place on Tuesday, September 19th, beginning after 8:00 pm, weather permitting. Baron Pest Control was awarded the contract to provide fogging services within Mohave County and will conduct the ground fogging application. Areas to be fogged include the following: Willow Rd south to Laguna Rd, east and west between Mohave Valley Hwy and Mountain View Rd.• Willow Rd north to King St and east and west from Boundary Peak to Aquarius Dr. The adulticide being used is MasterLine Kontrol 4-4. The National Pesticide Information Center says this is an insecticide registered for use against mosquitoes made from pyrethrins. Pyrethrins are insecticides that are derived from the extract of chrysanthemum flowers. Products containing pyrethrins include indoor bug bombs, human head lice treatments, and pet flea sprays. KINGMAN, Ariz. — The Bureau of Land Management today opened a 30-day public comment period for an environmental assessment that analyzes a 10-year plan to remove excess wild burros and implement herd fertility controls in and near the Alamo, Big Sandy and Havasu herd management areas south of Kingman, collectively known as the Three Rivers Complex.
