Intends to retire April 30, 2020 KINGMAN – The City of Kingman’s top cop intends to wrap up a four decades-long law enforcement career next spring. Police Chief Bob Devries has circled April 30, 2020 on his retirement calendar. “I turn 62 and it’s time,” Devries said. “We’ll have had some significant accomplishments into the coming year” Devries is primarily referring to the ongoing effort to achieve national accreditation for the department. KINGMAN – A large parcel of property provides interesting development opportunity in downtown Kingman once it’s sold by the state of Arizona. MOHAVE COUNTY – Embattled Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commissioner Lajuana Gillette addressed her critics Wednesday. A number of citizens have complained about what they contend to be insensitive, if not racist, social media posts authored by the Lake Havasu City resident. They pleaded with the Board of Supervisors on August 5 to reprimand, suspend or oust Gillette from the zoning commission position, expressing concern that her perceived prejudice impedes her ability to carry out her public duties given views she expressed on Facebook. KINGMAN – On Thursday, Aug. 8, Jesse and Dondi Godinez, owners of the Kingman Chophouse, presented Sheriff Doug Schuster and members of the Search and Rescue- Kingman Unit with a check for $6,900. The money donated was raised during the unit’s annual Taco Dinner fundraiser on July 8. Sheriff Schuster then presented Jesse, Dondi, and staff with a placard of appreciation for their continued support and sponsorship of the Taco Dinner fundraiser.
