MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Attorney Matt Smith could face the first ballot box challenge of his political career this year. One of Smith’s former employees, Bryan Whitney, visited the county elections office on Friday, February 7, declaring his intent to run for county attorney. Whitney currently heads up a Kingman-based private law practice. He did not respond to initial requests to discuss his prospective candidacy. BULLHEAD CITY – The Bullhead Fire Department (BHCFD), in partnership with the Kingman Fire Department hosted a Leadership Development Academy February 3 through 7. A total of 41 participants from surrounding departments were in attendance. The five-day academy was a joint effort to focus on Leadership and Management Training for Supervisors of the area Fire Departments. Storage unit burglar takes plea

KINGMAN – A plea agreement has been entered for a Bullhead City storage unit burglar. James Koryta, 46, pleaded guilty to three felony burglary charges during a February 11 hearing at the Mohave County Courthouse. Five other burglary charges and a criminal damage count are dismissed in the deal. Prosecutor Greg McPhillips said Koryta and co-defendant Eric Covell, 27, took property from eight different units at the Storage Stop business in the 3000 block of Highway 95 at the end of last September.
