Canul sentenced on sexual misconduct charge

Rodrigo Canul

BULLHEAD CITY – A 10-year prison term has been imposed for a Bullhead City man who allegedly sexually assaulted a teenager. Rodrigo Canul, 22, is convicted of one charge reduced to attempted sexual conduct with a minor.

Two counts of sexual assault and another sexual conduct with a minor are dismissed in the plea deal that provided opportunity for probation. Judge Billy Sipe rejected probation when he imposed the decade-long prison term during a July 1 sentencing hearing.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Amanda Claerhout said Canul repeatedly forced himself upon a male teenager in the 1300 block of Agate Ave. Claerhout said the offenses occurred four and five years ago, but that the victim did not report the criminal activity until Oct., 2023.

Canul must register as a sex offender for life upon release from prison. Judge Sipe also ordered that he have no contact with the victim.
