Burtt gets five years in child porn case

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Lake Havasu City man is the latest Mohave County Superior Court child pornography case defendant to be ordered to prison for five years, followed by lifetime probation. Kyle Burtt, 29, was sentenced December 23.

Judge Derek Carlisle imposed the low end of a 5- to 15-year prison punishment range detailed in a plea agreement convicting Burtt of three counts reduced to attempted sexual exploitation of a child. Seven other charges are dismissed in the plea deal entered November 25.

Burtt was arrested following an August search of his home in the 1000 block of Vista Drive in an investigation conducted by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. Judge Derek Carlisle said the three convictions are associated with Child Sexual Abuse Material, two images and a video file, located within the contents of his cell phone.

“I am remorseful for this,” Burtt said, noting a history of alcohol abuse. “It was a bad time.”

Defense attorney Bob Heieck said Burtt plans to take advantage of opportunities to overcome his alcohol addiction.
