Bighorn Men’s and Women’s Soccer extend winning streaks with holiday weekend victories

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave College women’s soccer team continued its strong start to the season with a 3–0 win over Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday at Firebird Field, keeping their winning streak alive.

Mohave took control in the second half, as Paola Cruz scored in the 53rd minute, followed by Jaquelin Godoy’s goal in the 62nd minute assisted by Brianne Kumashiro and Paola Cruz. Nyri Alozian sealed the win with a late goal in the 87th minute. Goalkeeper Evelyn Montiel-Silva kept a clean sheet, stopping all four shots attempted on goal.

The Bighorns’ next home game is set for Saturday, Sep. 13, when they host Long Beach Community College at 6 PM, followed by the men’s game at 8 PM, both at Firebird Field.

The Mohave College men’s soccer team also kept its winning streak alive over the holiday weekend, securing back-to-back home victories. The Bighorns defeated Paradise Valley Community College 5–0 Saturday, Aug. 30 and earned a 6–1 win over Central Wyoming College Monday, Sept. 1.

On Saturday, Erik Nava and Lazzar Ramos scored early, with Ramos adding a second in the second half. Brayan Lino scored off an assist from Nolan Garcia, and Ruben Beyer finished off a play assisted by David Guzman to close out the game.

Monday started fast with Ethan Harris scoring off an assist from Erik Nava and Nolan Garcia scoring assisted by Brayan Lino. Lazzar Ramos and Brayan Lino added unassisted goals, followed by Alan Salgado and Brayan Lino scoring off assists from Nolan Garcia and Luis Garcia.

“It’s a good game, good performance by the guys on a holiday, early morning, which sometimes is hard to play. We got ahead early with some good goals and high pressure like we like to play. So overall, very happy,” said Camilo Valencia, Men’s Head Soccer Coach.

Both teams look to continue their streaks on the road at the College of Southern Nevada Sept. 6, with the women’s game starting at 4:30 PM and the men’s game at 7 PM.

Fans can catch the next home games on Saturday, Sept. 13, with the women’s team at 6 PM and the men’s team at 8 PM at Firebird Field.
