BHC council member taking plea deal

BULLHEAD CITY – Bullhead City council member Annette Wegmann plans to enter a plea agreement to resolve her pending criminal case short of trial. Details of the deal are not yet public, but they appear to reduce a felony theft charge associated with her former employment to a misdemeanor so Wegmann would be able to remain on council.

Defense attorney Ken Sondgeroth, during a Tuesday hearing in Kingman, indicated Wegmann’s case would be transferred from one court to another for purpose of misdemeanor conviction. “My client has agreed to a plea agreement which is actually going to result in a filing in Justice Court that will be reducing this to a misdemeanor,” Songeroth told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle.

Sondgeroth said the misdemeanor plea to be submitted in Bullhead City Justice Court within a couple of weeks would result in case dismissal in Superior Court. Judge Carlisle set a Nov. 9th status hearing to see what transpired in the lower Court and whether Superior Court dismissal is appropriate.

Wegmann said she wants to move forward.

“I’m trying to put this behind me, the plea deal puts this whole ordeal behind me so I can focus on other priorities,” Wegmann said. “It has no impact on my City Council position.”
