Bal pleads guilty to sex offense

Samuel Bal

KINGMAN – A north Mohave County resident will be going to prison for child sex offenses he admits committing more than a decade ago. Samuel Bal, 41, pleaded guilty Feb. 2 to two charges reduced to attempted sexual conduct with a minor.

A sexual conduct with a minor charge and another sexual abuse count are dismissed in the deal. Terms require Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen to impose a 5- to 10-year prison term at a March 13 sentencing hearing.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Amanda Claerhout said Bal engaged in sexual activity with girls aged 7 and 13 when he lived in Scenic between July and September, 2013.

Defense attorney Paul Amann said intoxication and alcoholism were factors, but nothing rising to the level of a legitimate criminal defense.
