Candidate packets available for Lake Havasu City elections

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Packets containing information, forms, documents and petitions necessary for a Lake Havasu City resident to run for City Council in the Fall Election are available, starting on Monday, January 6. Three Councilmember seats are on the ballot for the Fall Primary Election on August 4. Those seats are currently held by Councilmembers Gordon Groat, Donna McCoy, and Vice-Mayor David Lane. Annual rainfall up for Mohave County

MOHAVE COUNTY – Area communities enjoyed above average precipitation in 2019. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Las Vegas said rainfall wasn’t officially measured in Bullhead City last year but that Laughlin, Nevada welcomed nearly twice its annual average. The NWS said a total of 10.24 inches of rain fell in Laughlin last year and that the annual average measured over a 23 year span was 5.36 inches. KINGMAN – Long Mountain Event Center with Cerbat Motosports will be holding a Scramble Car/SXS and Tuff Truck event on Saturday, Jan. 4. Gates open at 10 a.m. and racing at noon. Gate fee of $5 per person (5 and under free) and $30 to race. All proceeds made will be going back to Long Mountain Event Center. Young enters guilty plea in theft from Yucca Fire District

Superior Court. Matthew Young, 40, pleaded guilty to theft on Thursday in Kingman. Prosecutor James Schoppmann said Young turned himself in at the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office lobby on July 24, 2019. Schoppmann told Court Commissioner Doug Camacho that Young readily admitted his involvement in converting Yucca Fire District funds to personal use. Schoppmann said Young initially had Governing Board permission to use a fire district account to award himself some back pay. Schoppmann said that Young indicated he was unable to stop stealing by moving public money to various fire district accounts while continuing to make unauthorized incremental payments…

Mental Health First Aid training offered

KINGMAN – Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG) will be hosting a free Mental Health First Aid training on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the WACOG office, 208 N. Fourth St. This is an eight-hour course that teaches how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
