Dear Editor, Unemployed Americans need cash. We go to work in return for a paycheck. With unemployment we lose the paycheck. It’s a simple but very painful formula for millions of Americans. Paychecks pay the rent or the mortgage, the car payment, utilities, groceries and school clothes for the kids. Whatever amount the government will provide unemployed Americans are hoping will be on the generous side. The $600 a month boost has been a financial plus. Quad crash, suicide updates

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave County Sheriff’s office has released the names of victims who died in separate crash and suspected suicide incidents. Two 13-year-old girls were killed when the quad they were riding was struck by a pickup truck whose driver fled the scene of the July 25 collision on Pierce Ferry Road in Dolan Springs. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Anita Mortensen identified the teens as Evelyn Arias, Dolan Springs, and Jocelyn Escamilla, Las Vegas. A 19-year-old female who was also riding the quad who reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries remains in critical, but stable condition at a Las Vegas hospital. The…

COVID-19 update: 29 new cases, two deaths

MOHAVE COUNTY –  Late Tuesday afternoon, the Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff was notified today of 29 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. There are also two Bullhead City service area deaths from previously reported cases. One is in the 60-69 year age range and the other is 80-89. Of the 29 new confirmed cases, 15 are in the Bullhead City service area. There are 10 cases in the Kingman service area. The Lake Havasu City and North County service areas have two apiece. MOHAVE COUNTY – Erika Hiestand, a 2020 Mohave Community College graduate, is on the road to continue her education at Arizona State University in Tempe. Hiestand was honored to be the 2020 MCC Student Speaker during the Virtual 2020 MCC Graduate Recognition Ceremony. She was a 2019 All Arizona Academic Team member. MOHAVE COUNTY – Sheriff Doug Schuster was a big winner in Tuesday’s contested Mohave County primary election races. The re-election seeking incumbent grabbed 79% of the vote to turn back Mike Gannuscio’s challenge in the republican primary.
