Heredia takes plea in domestic violence case

A former Bullhead City resident who roughed up his girlfriend last month will be placed on supervised probation through a plea agreement entered March 14 at the Mohave County Courthouse in Kingman. Nicholas Alfonso Heredia, 32, can still be ordered to serve up to one year in the county jail when he is sentenced next month. Bullhead City police said Heredia’s live-in girlfriend sustained a serious injury to her face when a Feb. 18 argument escalated into an altercation in the 1700 block of Highway 95. “He knocked her to the ground and started choking her from behind, leaving abrasions…

Proposed circus ban stirs controversy

Dear Editor, A recent meeting of public versus Kingman City Council concerning an ordinance banning use of exotic animals as entertainment, appears to have been entertaining in its own right. Testimony from those opposed to banning the use of exotic animals for entertainment purposes ranged from . . . doing so would be a slippery slope, loss of entertainment, loss of revenue, and for some odd reason it was suggested people not being able to distinguish the difference between a Hollywood stunt man with his hair on fire and the use of tortured animals performing tricks. KINGMAN – The Kingman Unified School District (KUSD) has retained political consultant Paul Ulan to help governing board members and staff contemplate pursuit of a multi-million dollar bond issue to fund the refurbishment and re-purposing of portions of the Palo Christi Elementary school campus downtown. Be in the world, but not of it

Not far from our former home in Avondale flows the Agua Fria River. I have, on many occasions, observed people fishing from its banks, wondering if the fish were good to eat. That question was answered for me when warning signs were posted. In bold, red letters, each sign states: “Warning! Do not eat fish taken from these waters. Fish may be contaminated with hazardous toxins!” The warning was enough for me because I did not want to knowingly poison myself, and quite possibly endanger my life. We live in a society that produces an abundance of hazardous waste. There…
