Revelation that the defendant he was about to send to prison had been working with law enforcement as a confidential informant for five years changed a local judge’s sentencing determination  at recent hearings in Mohave County Superior Court. “This is probably one of the most unusual sentencing hearings I have ever done,” the judge said. He said he began the proceeding thinking he would impose the maximum…

Storms teach us life lessons

Seasons come, seasons go! Winter is fast giving way to spring, then spring to summer. Along with every season come various kings of weather, be it snow, wind, heat and monsoon rains. I remember the summer of 2014. The monsoon rains were the worst I remember in a long time. With the heavy rains I received weather alerts on my cell phone, as well as the television. We were adequately warned of flash floods. Fortunately, the National Weather Service kept each of us being informed and prepared for what would lie ahead. Like many of you, any storm that threatens…

Kingman City Council work session to focus on generating new revenue streams

Projects and funding sources are part of the focus of next week’s Kingman City Council work session. City manager Ron Foggin said staff will once again detail Kingman’s five-year capital improvement project list. Cost of the projects grossly exceeds Kingman’s current funding capacity. Foggin said he believes the City should reduce and redraft its project list and make it more realistic if it does not identify new revenue streams. A mix of fee and tax options to generate additional revenue will also be presented. “We’re going to talk to the Council about what’s their appetite for moving forward to address…
