Bullhead City Striper Derby scheduled for June

Bullhead City Recreation Department in partnership with Rusty’s Riviera Marina is hosting a Striper Derby, June 8 and 9. Registered derby anglers are welcome to fish the Colorado River from “dam to bridge” for their chance to reel in some cash. “Dam to bridge” is defined as the Davis Dam to the Needles Bridge. Anglers can compete in three categories heaviest stringer, largest striper and a blind bogey.  Prizes will be awarded first place winners in each category with heaviest stringer being the grand prize winner. Messersmith speaks on Kingman tunnels

Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s April 5 speaker was Kingman Historian and fellow club member Dan Messersmith. Messersmith addressed the club on the Kingman tunnels. Most or all of the tunnels originating prior to 1888 were destroyed in the devastating fires of 1888, 1898 and 1907. Two tunnels were built in 1909. The first, a steam pipe under the Powerhouse running east, and the second, a large sewer system by the railroad. These have since sealed up with no access today.

Mohave County Courthouse construction underway

Site preparation is underway where a contractor is building a four story addition to the historic Mohave County Courthouse in downtown Kingman. Heavy equipment is busy tearing up the blacktop of the parking lot where the addition will go vertical.    Fencing has been placed around the work zone that is just north of the Kingman City complex.  County officials have estimated it might cost as much as $24-million to construct the 66,000 sq. ft. addition, remodel the old courthouse, and furnish and equip both facilities.   Presiding Judge Charles Gurtler has said design features for the project will promote security and public…

“Wizard of Oz” is Mohave High spring musical through Saturday

The yellow brick road passes through Bullhead City this week when the family-friendly classic “The Wizard of Oz” is performed at Mohave High School.  The spring musical is scheduled each evening now through Saturday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $7 for students and $10 for adults.  All performances are in the Mohave High auditorium, 2251 Highway 95.  Proceeds benefit the Mohave High theatre program.
