KINGMAN – The state is not seeking the death penalty for suspects who have reportedly confessed involvement in the murder of a Kingman woman and burial of her body which was encased in a 55-gallon drum. The revelation came during consecutive pre-trial conference hearings conducted Friday at the Mohave County courthouse in Kingman. Attorneys informed the court that plea agreement offers have been extended to Mark Baldonado, 31, and Carrie Vanover, 23. Both are charged with first degree murder, kidnapping, abandonment of a dead body and theft charges associated with the April 14 death of Shawn Vanover, 62. Court records…
KINGMAN – The public is invited to the Mohave Republican Forum (MRF) meeting on Wednesday, October 9, at 5:30 p.m. with Congressman Paul Gosar (AZ District 2) and Arizona House Representative Regina Cobb (AZ District 5), who will be speaking and answering questions. Raising $10,000 for the Salvation Army and having a whole lot of fun is the goal of a unique fundraising event coordinated by the Kingman and Golden Valley Association of Realtors. Board member Dawn Brannies said organizers are looking for sponsors for the Oct. 19 Rocky Horror Picture Show event at the Brenden Kingman Cinemas. “We have two sponsorship levels, one for $250 and one for $1,500,” Brannies said. “That will get some advertising, a banner, the theater lobby and then any other promotional stuff we can do on social media for them.” Anyone interested in sponsorship opportunities can call…
Katherine Elizabeth Schiffert, of Chloride, died Thursday, September 26, 2019. She was 87. Mrs. Schiffert was born Dec. 16, 1931 in Middleport, NY. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Chloride Cemetery. The family contact is her daughter Linda Jo Shaffer. Arrangements were made by Sutton Memorial Funeral Home.
U.S. Air Force Airman Peyton Speed graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Speed is the son of Rhonda and Rodney Speed of Lancaster, California. He is the grandson of Peggy Hatfield of Lake Havasu City, and son-in-law of Jaycee Gill of Ridgecrest, California….
