Dear Editor, Responding to Rick Simpson’s question about the flavor of the “Blue KoolAid” in the Oct. 20 issue of The Standard. I will gladly explain why I think anyone making over $400K a year should be paying a bit more taxes. Maybe it’s just me, but I believe it is high time we—the middle class—get some relief from being the ones paying for most of the expenses running this country’s programs. Dear Editor, During World War II, on April 9, 1942, 75,000 United States soldiers and Filipino soldiers were surrendered to Japanese forces after months of battling in extreme-climate conditions. Soon after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Japanese forces began the invasion of the Philippines. The capture of the Philippines was crucial to the Japanese. Larry James Deering passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, with his loving family by his side after a long history of health problems. He was born March 14, 1967, in Kingman, Arizona, to Billy Mack and Lula (Lou) Deering. He attended Valley of the Sun School in Phoenix, AZ, the Hozhoni School in Flagstaff, AZ, and completed his schooling at Kingman High School. He was active at the Little Red School, the ARC Workshop, and was attending New Horizons Disability Empowerment Center at the time of his passing. CASA Mohave County founder, Ronald Stephen, passes away

On Oct. 8, 2021, Ronald G. Stephen passed away. Born on July 23, 1937, he was 84 years old. He was a U.S. Army veteran and loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karin; his children Tracy (Alex) Tziortizis, Dawn (Thomas) Losiniecki, Ronald J. Stephen and Beth (Eduardo) Fernandez; and his grandchildren Alexis, Sophia, Elias, Noah, and Mia. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ron’s name made to the CASA Council of Mohave County—a charity he founded for foster children—at casasupport.org are appreciated.

Dear Editor, America needs attention to our infrastructure. It’s pathetic that our Congress and President are having so much trouble putting something together they can agree on. We managed to spend the equivalent of a trillion dollars in today’s currency on the Vietnam war. What did we get for a trillion dollars? Over 58,000 dead American soldiers. Plus, over 1,500 missing in action and thousands of wounded, many of which were never recovered. We lost 4,497 American soldiers in Iraq. We spent two trillion dollars in Iraq.
