A picture is worth a thousand words

Dear Editor, 

For all that is going on it can’t go unnoticed that in real-time unscripted and caught off guard and on camera one of Trump’s people passed out in the Oval Office and Trump just stood there with his back turned while others tried to help and showed concern. Except him. He turned away saying nothing doing nothing with no expression or emotion. Acting as if he really didn’t care. And that is the point.

Donald Trump doesn’t care not unless it’s about him. When he poses pictures of himself in getup costumes looking like a bad dude with super powers yet can’t show concern for a fellow supporter that passed out two feet from him, that says a lot. A callousness and indifference with someone else’s need or pain. A narcissism he has no shame showing and if not embracing. Nor shame embracing violence that others have to deal with no matter how illegal it is. 

Saying ICE isn’t tough enough though they’re attacking and beating immigrants and citizens and terrorizing children and communities. As one judge said, “The use of violence is shocking to the mind’s conscience.” 

While Trump’s wine hits market shelves tax free, he tariffs other businesses struggling. And like he did with U.S. farmers he now throws our cattle rangers under the bus encouraging us to purchase foreign beef from, where else, once again, Argentina. Showing more loyalty to that country than ours. 

But then the short guy with the long bushy sideburns wheeling the same chainsaw on stage with Elon Musk is the right-wing president of, where else, Argentina. You put two and two together. It all adds up to Trump not putting America first. 

When he went on one of his midnight rants posting on X in all caps telling Americans to, “STOP LYING! America is doing great!” Then he goes on to say on national TV, “I don’t want to hear about the affordability!” Saying again, “America is doing great!” 

The only thing doing ‘great’ is the tens of millions of dollars he and his family businesses are raking in. And doing ‘great’ are his billionaire donors he promised he’d make them even richer with bigger tax breaks and government subsidies and grants he hands out to them like penny candy while subsidies are being taken from us and grants taken away from nonprofit organizations that are here for the people.

And no different than the pictures of ‘Where’s Waldo’ Trump escapes to other countries (like that’s helping any of us him receiving their lavish gifts [even a gold crown] while he threatens to reboot our nuclear programs), and of course there’s always Mar-a-Lago to avoid what is happening to his own country. 

Like the ‘weird bubble’ he was in that day in the Oval Office Trump is clueless to what is happening because he chooses to be. He’s rather think about himself and the marble bathroom he just built in the Lincoln room for himself or the Marie Antoinette ballroom that dwarfs the size of the White House he builds to show off ‘himself.’ 

No different than what he did to the poor man who passed out he does to us. He ignores what is happening to millions of Americans while trying to gaslight us into thinking things are other than what they are. Like he did on Jan. 6th, calling it, “A day of love” … beating cops and trashing the Capitol while hunting down Mike Pence to string up on the rioter’s makeshift gallows. 

We all saw it with our own eyes. It was no love fest (!?!). But like he always does he tells us not to believe what we see or hear or even feel the pain and chaos of what is happening across our nation. 

Just because Trump doesn’t feel the pain it doesn’t mean millions of others aren’t. How easy it is for him and some to look away from those in need, whether it be military families, federal employees, farmers, single mothers, and those with illness and disabilities and, yes, our U.S. immigrants. Like it is said, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” 

Donald J. Trump has shown us time and again just who he really is. There is no limit to his pain and cruelty, or, lack of interest or concern. Except when it come to ‘himself.’
