Sheriff speaks to Golden Shore residents at neighborhood watch meeting

GOLDEN SHORES, Ariz. – Mohave County Sheriff Doug Schuster highlighted the Golden Shores Neighborhood Watch meeting Monday evening, Oct. 5. He said that although the county’s population is up since he became Sheriff, the crime rate is down.

“I wouldn’t do this job in any other county,” Schuster said. “We’re about law and order. That’s what we try to do every day and we’re about treating our communities with respect and courtesy.”

Sgt. Cal Gonzales and Lt. Jason Elsbury accompanied Sheriff Schuster to the Golden Shores meeting.

Sgt. Cal Gonzales has been with the sheriff’s office for four years and Lt. Jason Elsbury, 25 years.

Community Center in Golden Shores was almost full Monday evening to hear Sheriff Doug Schuster. Connie “Ceejay” Jones

Schuster said a body was found in the marsh, but it was on tribal land and the FBI and Tribal Police are handling the investigation.

Other than that, he mentioned that Golden Shores crime rate has dropped significantly.  He said between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2025, that Golden Shores experienced a measurable reduction in crime, based on the calls received at the Sheriff’s office.

His report said burglary was down by more than 80%, burglary attempts were reduced by about the same rate, and criminal damage and fraud were cut nearly in half. He attributed these reductions to increased patrols, Neighborhood Watch participation, and improved communication channels.

Schuster said threatening calls were down more than 80%, domestic violence calls decreased by approximately 50%, and weapons-offense calls declined by approximately 75%.

“The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to maintaining and building upon this progress. Continued collaboration with residents, community partners, and local leadership remains essential in further reducing crime and ensuring that Golden Shores remains a safe place to live, work, and visit.”
