LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Lake Havasu City Mayor Cal Sheehy was reelected Chair of the Clean Colorado River Sustainability Coalition (CCRSCo) during the coalition’s recent annual meeting, continuing Lake Havasu City’s regional involvement in efforts to protect and preserve the water quality of the Lower Colorado River.

Joining Mayor Sheehy in the coalition’s leadership, Duce Minor, La Paz County Board of Supervisors, was reelected as Vice Chair, and Dr. Todd Tietjen, Southern Nevada Water Authority, was reelected as Secretary/Treasurer.

The Clean Colorado River Sustainability Coalition brings together municipalities, counties, water and wastewater agencies, tribal representatives, educational institutions, and federal and regional partners from Arizona, California, and Nevada who share a commitment to protecting the Lower Colorado River.

Originally established in 1997 as the Colorado River Regional Sewer Coalition (CRRSCo), the organization initially focused on securing federal funding to improve wastewater treatment systems and expand centralized sewer infrastructure to address nitrate concerns along the Lower Colorado River.

The coalition later became involved with the Clean Colorado River Alliance, an initiative created in 2005 by Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to identify and address potential threats to the Colorado River’s water quality.

Following significant improvements to sewer infrastructure in communities, including Lake Havasu City and Bullhead City, the organization broadened its mission. In 2013, CRRSCo amended its bylaws and became the Clean Colorado River Sustainability Coalition, shifting its focus toward regional collaboration and water-quality issues affecting the Lower Colorado River watershed.

“The Colorado River connects our communities and is vital to our residents, our economies, and our future,” Mayor Sheehy said. “I am honored to serve as Chair and look forward to working with our regional partners to continue protecting the water quality and long-term sustainability of this critical resource.”
