Community invited to Freedom Bridge groundbreaking ceremony

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Lake Havasu City invites residents, community partners, and members of the public to attend the Freedom Bridge Groundbreaking Ceremony on Tuesday, October 13, at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony takes place at the future site of the Freedom Bridge on the Island side.

The ceremony marks the official beginning of construction on the Freedom Bridge, a long-awaited project that will create a second connection between the Island and the mainland and provide an additional route for emergency access and evacuation.

“This is an exciting and significant moment for Lake Havasu City,” said Mayor Cal Sheehy. “Our community has talked about a second bridge for decades, and to finally reach the point where we are breaking ground is something worth celebrating. The Freedom Bridge is an investment in the safety, connectivity, and future of our community.”

The Lake Havasu City Council officially named the new bridge the Freedom Bridge and the connecting roadway Freedom Avenue during its September 22 meeting.

Lake Havasu City received $35.5 million in state-appropriated funding for the study, design, and construction of the second bridge as an emergency evacuation route. The project has advanced through years of planning, public engagement, feasibility analysis, design, and coordination with local, state, and federal partners.

“Reaching this milestone has taken years of planning, collaboration, and coordination,” said City Manager Jess Knudson. “The Freedom Bridge will provide an important second connection to the Island and an additional emergency access and evacuation route for our community. We are excited to see construction begin and grateful to everyone who has helped move this project forward.”

Lake Havasu City is pleased to partner with Ames Construction on this significant infrastructure project, which also includes associated roadway, intersection, utility, and drainage improvements.

Community members are encouraged to join City officials, project partners, and staff as Lake Havasu City breaks ground on the Freedom Bridge and celebrates the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the community.
