KINGMAN, Ariz. – Robert Posey, Chair of the Task Force formed between the City of Kingman and Mohave County to come up with a contingency plan for severe drought conditions, hosted a meeting Tuesday September 29.
“A multi-year project has been tentatively approved,” Posey said. “The Bureau of Reclamation is asking us to do another plan to outline a severe drought water shortage contingency plan.”
Concerned residents at the meeting asked questions and were told there’s no immediate concern.
“We have a model that projects we have enough water to last 110 years,” said Task Force Vice Chair and Mohave County Development Services Director, Scott Holtry.
Posey said the contingency plan was merely to aid in applying for grants. “It will help us be more competitive for grants,” Posey said, “because we have a plan to conserve water for our area.”
He said they have constructed two water basins that have put 200 acre-feet of water back in the ground and another three water basins are under construction.
“There’s no urgency in our water situation,” Posey said.
