KINGMAN, Ariz. – College Park Church holds a Young at Heart Luncheon once a month for seniors over 50, married or single. It’s a time of fellowship, comradery and fun.
A gentleman in the group went around, held up a sign that said, “Wanted, $10,000 Reward” with the middle cut out for faces and took a picture.
One fun game was throwing a hula-hoop over cowboy boots. Only two could do it – one of the men and this Standard reporter. The man then asked this reporter if she used to rope horses or cows. She told him no. Just played basketball in high school (many) years ago.
Another cute game was played to find your cowboy name by selecting the name corresponding to the first letter of your first and last names, plus the name beside your birth month, then drawing your picture inside the square provided. The Standard’s wanted cowboy’s name was Dallas Willy Cassidy.
They all sang old western songs like Home on the Range, along with a few gospel songs too.
Pastor Tim McCoy told a couple of corny jokes like, “What’s God’s favorite car? Answer: A Chrysler. He then expounded a short message from the Bible about the landowner who hired men at different hours of the day, yet agreeing to pay them the same wage, whether they worked all day or one or two hours. The workers there all day, like we most likely would do, thought it was unfair, but the landowner reminded them, they were paid what was promised. That led to questions and answers, followed by a delicious potluck luncheon.
Lead pastor Denis Cronkite closed with an invitation for everyone to come back next month for more fun and games. College Park Church is located at 1999 Jagerson.
