Famous speeches

Ask not what your country can do for you – John F. Kennedy

We should fight on the beaches – Winston Churchill

The only thing to fear is fear itself – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Excerpts from famous speeches made by famous people, remembered forever for a brief line from an important moment during their lifetime.

This is not a suggestion that you would ever be called upon to deliver a speech on such an occasion. There could be times that you would like to say something but reluctant due to fear of addressing an audience, often called “stage fright.”

Think of the following circumstances that could happen and any experience or background would be beneficial:

• Give a toast at a dear friend’s wedding

• The eulogy for a loved one

• A recommendation for a friend’s promotion

• Some words to benefit a fundraising event

• Asked to be the master of ceremonies at an important gathering

These are only a few of the instances that you could refuse and later regret not having spoken on behalf of someone, or something that you truly loved.

That is why it is important to belong to a speaking club, preferably one that meets weekly. You may gain confidence to not regretting something you wish you had done.

Legacy Speakers of Kingman meets every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC), 3269 Stockton Hill Rd. For more information call 909-252-7115 or email legacyspeakersofkingman@gmail.com.
