100-plus years for Lake Havasu City child pornography case

LAKE HAVASU CITY – More than one century in prison has been ordered in a Lake Havasu City man’s child pornography case. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle imposed a 105-year sentence during a June 4 hearing for Johnathan Kroll, 38.

Kroll was convicted of five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor during his jury trial that concluded May 6. Each conviction involved Kroll’s possession of videos featuring minors engaged in sexual activity that he shared through a social media platform.

Judge Carlisle called it a harsh, but appropriate sentence under tough punishment provisions the Arizona state legislature has mandated in the child pornography realm. The severity of Kroll’s punishment was exacerbated by his prior criminal history.

Kroll previously served nearly seven years in prison for stabbing his best friend to death in Lake Havasu City in 2013. That ratcheted up his prison term by 35 years.

Defense attorney Bob Heieck said Kroll concedes his pornography addiction, but maintains his innocence on the sexual exploitation counts.
