Some boats evacuated during Havasu brush fire

HAVASU CITY – At approximately 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, several citizens reported a brush fire just north of Windsor State Beach on London Bridge Road. The first arriving fire company reported a three- to five-acre fire burning south towards the north end of the Jet Ski launch ramp. The fire was moving towards Wet Monkey Powersport Rentals shop where several pontoon boats and personal watercrafts were parked.

Three Engine Companies and a Battalion Chief responded to the fire. Desert Hills Fire District provided a Brush Unit and a Water Tender. Wet Monkey employees moved all boats from the immediate area. Several boats received damage to Bimini tops and upholstery from flying embers. There were no reported injuries to any firefighters or Wet Monkey employees.

Crews remained on the scene for 24 hours hitting hot spots when high winds caused

flare-ups in the brush. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
