Dear Editor,
I moved to Kingman from Idaho in November. I enjoy smaller towns. I was surprised to see my first electric bill as it had nine different taxes and surcharges on it which caused it to go from $90 to $310. Shocking to say the least when one is used to looking at bills for $160 and less. When I asked Unisource why all the surcharges and taxes on the bill, I was told that the people of Kingman voted for this and then it was approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission. In having said this before I cannot find one citizen of Kingman who truly voted to increase the price of their electricity. Then I was told that as users of electricity we have to pay for the profit loss from those who use solar. They get grants for this. Just today I read that we have to cover the cost of the people who cannot pay their bill for whatever reason. When does the greed stop?
I wanted to sign a petition for a mayoral candidate and was told that I live outside city limits so I cannot vote. Given that this is true why do I have to pay the taxes voted in for the city? That is taxation without representation. The board of supervisors I am told decides for me. They do not talk to me and as for the surveys – I have not been asked so who has been asked about raising my costs? Not me. I am told the people of Kingman. Again, that refers to those who live in city limits so because I cannot vote in those elections and have no say why does this affect me?
